chapter 8
This is so uncomfortable. Right now I’m sitting in the middle of the two boys whilst on our way to the training thing. Faisal was driving and Turki was texting someone or playing a game on his phone. Me? I was doing nothing. I didn’t have any space to do anything. So I just sat there, bored with nothing to do.
‘How long is it gonna take for us to get there?’ I asked, breaking the silence.
‘About 45 minutes.’ Faisal answered.
I sighed. I have 45 minutes to kill… with what exactly? It’s not like they’re gonna get out a monopoly board and we’ll play.
So I just sat there, picking off the remains of my nail polish. I heard Turki sigh and then he leant forward and pulled something out the glove compartment. ‘Here.’ He said to me and handed me a book.
‘“Assassin training for dummies”? How nice.’ I muttered.
‘Just read it. It’ll be useful.’
I rolled my eyes and opened the book, reading the first page.
~Le skips to the training
Chapter 3. This book isn’t half bad, I can understand it and all its doing is showing me ways to defend myself. But now, chapter 3 is using the gun. Oh joy. Now I have to imagine myself killing someone. I shuddered at the thought.
‘And we are here.’ Faisal sighed and then smiled.
I looked out the window, it was a worn out warehouse that had grown mould… charming. ‘Let’s get this over with.’ I said and got out the dark red van after Faisal.
We walked inside and I heard a gun shot and then someone reloading the gun. I froze. Do they mean training as in…? No. Oh please. ‘Come on.’ Turki said annoyed and pushed me forward, forcing me into the warehouse.
I got inside and it wasn’t THAT bad. It had a few rooms in it and the main room had a target and a dummy. There was a booth and loads of guns all in a line. There were stands of shot guns and cases full of ammo.
‘This is the newbie right here.’ Faisal said proudly to the man that was about to shoot the metal target that was far away from him.
‘A girl? Nice!’ He high-fived Faisal and then inspected me. ‘Why did you join their gang?’
I shrugged. ‘I kinda didn’t have a choice.’
‘Kidnapped?’ He asked to Turki.
He nodded. ‘Needs sorting out as well, nearly escaped twice plus she has some attitude problems.’
I shot Turki a glare before I turned back to the man. ‘So why do you have loads of guns lined up on a table?’
‘Well, Miss…’ He trailed off.
‘Nouf.’ I muttered.
His jaw dropped. ‘You mean- Ohhh. I get it. They kidnapped you from the shopping mall in Riyadh right?’
I nodded.
‘Anyway, Miss Nouf.’ This dude seemed quite nice… first impressions aren't everything though, he might be a totally different person next time I see him. ‘Today I will be teaching you how to hold a gun.’
‘She knows how to shoot a gun as well.’ Turki piped in.
‘Really? How do you know?’
He showed him the cast on his arm and how the arm was in a sling. ‘This.’
‘She shot your arm?’ He asked shocked and then turned to me.
I kept my head down and focused on looking at my feet. ‘Yes.’ I mumbled. What if this man beats me up as well for it? I have enough bruises and cuts already.
‘Well, this is gonna be more complicated.’ The man started to explain. ‘I’m gonna teach you how to hold a gun and shoot it properly, not just a spur-in-the-moment shot. A real shot. Here, put these on.’ He handed me a pair of safety goggles.
I put them over my eyes and he led me to the booth thing which I’m guessing you were meant to stand at. He pressed a button and the target started to move closer to me so it was just a few feet away from me. He took the metal target off the moving thing and replaced it with a clean one.
‘We’re going to start off easy. Hold the gun with two hands.’ He re-adjusted my hands. ‘Now aim for the bulls-eye… when you’re ready, no rush.’
I took a few seconds to breathe before I pulled the trigger and the bullet went straight in the middle, hitting the bulls-eye. (A/N: I think it’s called that)
‘Nice.’ The man nodded. ‘Not bad for a beginner.’ He then got me a different gun and told me to do the same but with a fresh target board. I hit the bulls-eye again.
This repeated two or three more times with different guns and different lengths between me and the target board. By the end of it all the boys seemed surprised and shocked. ‘Wow. Have you used a gun before?’ The man asked me.
‘Before I shot Turk- I mean Sir, no.’ I smiled sweetly.
‘This is talent boys, pure talent.’ He patted my shoulder. ‘Come back tomorrow and we’ll work on hand combat, okay?’
I nodded and gave a polite smile. ‘Okay.’
‘Take care of her boys and make sure she’s in ship-shape for tomorrow.’ He said to the brothers.
‘Yeap.’ They both said in unison.
On the way back, Faisal started conversation. ‘How did you learn how to use a gun like that? It was brilliant!’
I shrugged. ‘I watch so much crime shows… I just know.’
‘Beginners luck.’ Turki scoffed.
‘Maybe, but I’m sure I was a better beginner than you.’
‘I started at a young age and you’re 16… difference.’ He shot back.
‘Maybe so, but I could actually shoot the bulls-eye first try… I bet it took you a while.’ I teased and then got back to reading “Assassin Training for Dummies”.
‘It’s the book.’ I heard Turki mutter under his breath.
‘Nah, so far I’m only learning about stuff I’ll be taught tomorrow.’ I replied, not taking my eyes off the page.
‘I hate you.’ He spat.
‘The feelings mutual.’ I smirked back. Which only made him huff and turn his head to look out the window.
